Generally I thought the debate was a stalemate, maybe a VERY slight victory for Cheney. And this is coming from a staunch Kerry supporter. I really got bored after the first hour. It was basically just mudslinging, with each canidate either repeating what was said in the last Prez. debate or otherwise going completely off-topic. I don't think I'm disappointed in Edward's performance per se, but it's clear that Cheney did his homework - he did well talking up his experience, and talking about Edwards's absence during key votes. Oh the other hand Kerry held his own and got in some counterjabs himself, particularly attacking Cheney's voting record, Haliburton, and the jobs issue, the last two of which Cheney didn't have much of an answer for. Overall, I'd say a pretty boring stalemate.

I am completely baffled by your reaction here. The VP debate was surprisingly good, especially compared to the Presidential debate. Cheney came off as competent, intelligent, stalwart, and a little bit ruthless, which is exactly what I want in my president. Edwards came off as a bit slimy, but still more charismatic and articulate than John Kerry. And both VP candidates were better able to cite facts than the top halves of their tickets ( ... )

Oh, I forgot: yes, the AIDS question was stupid.

Very. What did that statistic demonstrate, exactly? That Cheney is a racist or something?

I wasn't going to say anything because I didn't see the debate, but I'd like to add that all my hallmates did and, as Paul experienced when he asked around, found it refreshing after the Presidential debate.
