I too found the story a little "longish" for a memoir. I remember even in our own country, how students were treated. My father constantly received a beating from the principle, (he says they were all undeserved, but I know my Dad, ha ha). Also the residential schools and the Catholic schools, do not seem to have many better stories to tell. It does give a feeling of the author at the end. I do wonder at your views on your fellow "Easterners" however. I know quite a few people from N.B., N.S., and the other Atlantic provinces, and find them to be the best story tellers! They may not publish, but they always have a story to tell. And no, I don't think reflections all need be sad and melancholy. It is just one of the strong emotions that we tend to hang on to. And I think that people like to read others troubles to maybe make their own lives seem not as bad. Makes it a good story in other words.

Thats a very big question. But here is my answer: It depends on the day. I have days where all my reflections are sad, but then I have days where I think of nothing but the good stuff. This usually happens when I am sitting on the bus, or in some public place and start to laugh quietly to myself. Hopefully most people understand and do not think I am mad. What about yourself?
