I don't expect most people, if anyone, has heard of this series, so have a primer:
This is a series of six novels, written all at once and then published back to back, by author Michael J. Sullivan. They were first self-published as ebooks, and then, due to popularity, were picked up by an indie press and then a mainstream press. As of the most recent publishing, the original six books have been repackaged into three, with two novels per book. The three book titles now are: Theft of Swords, Rise of Empires, and Heir of Novron. Following the completion of a few other novels, the author returned to the series and wrote prequel novels, the Riyria Chronicles - two so far, plus a few short stories, though there is no confirmation as to how many prequel books there will finally be. He has suggested a couple of times that he'd like to have one novel for every year the two protagonists knew each other prior to the main series.
Now that that's out of the way, the actual plot. From the author's website:

Set in an era of knights and kings it is a world dominated by mankind surrounded by a sea of uncharted wilderness and lost knowledge. I'm gonna be honest: I want shipfic so so badly. None of my prompts below are overly shippy, but let's just say that you are more than welcome to keep my above preferences in mind and write me anything. And please try to avoid too much mention of Gwen, even if your fic is pre-series; it makes me sad. :(
Again, since I doubt this is what we matched on, if you're reading this you probably haven't read the series, and you should, so I have tried to keep this all spoiler-free. Accordingly, my prompts are actually mostly set between the prequels and the actual series, or set post-series. If you haven't read either of the Chronicle books, it's still okay to give me prequel fic! Just make it up, that's what fanfiction is for. I'd actually love to read someone else's headcanon about pre-series Hadrian and Royce.

When I started reading Discworld, I read by series, not chronological order. I started with the Wizards, then the Witches, then some of the standalone novels and Death. I left the Watch books for last, because books about the City Watch? How could that be entertaining?
And then I finally read them, and they are entertaining, immensely so. But more than that, they have Sam Vimes, one of the best examples of understated character development and the best male protagonist in any fantasy series ever, and they have Lord Vetinari, the best kindly overlord a cesspit city could ever hope for, and they have Lady Sybil, who is perfect and, with Vimes, forms one of the most peaceful and convincing marriages I've ever read. Yeah, she wasn't nominated. I should've gotten on that, but I had no free slot.
But that's past, so let's say this: I love Vimes, and I am alternately impressed and amused by Vetinari, and a fic about the two of them would be a wonderful gift fic. In my prompts below I have largely included prompts for them as a pair (gen or shippy, don't worry!).

I really like their relationship, but I also really like their characters individually; in particular, I always wish Vetinari had more screen time. Though I requested both Vimes and Vetinari, if you want to do Vetinari-only fic I am perfectly fine with that! And obviously feel free to include Drumknott or any members of the Watch you like; I do ask if you write Vetinari-fic, please don't include too much of Margolotta, as I was not her biggest fan.

The first season was nonsensical at times but fun; season 2 was downright unintelligible in parts. Especially considering the cliffhanger, so I'd prefer nothing post-season related to the actual plot of the show. I've asked for Peter and Roman because what I really want is a fic that tries to reconcile their relationship into something slightly more functional - I'd like to see them actually deal with some of their issues: Roman's feelings of abandonment, and how that relates to Peter's sense of belonging, which is mostly lost to him with his mother gone; lack of trust; their need for each other (particularly Roman's) as the only supernatural creatures they can (somewhat) rely on. I don't mean you have to write me angst fic with wails of "But whyyyy!" Those are just the aspects of their relationship I'm discontented with; as I think some of my suggested prompts from last year show, I really just want fic that shows how their relationship could be better, it doesn't have to describe the process of getting there. Unless that's what you want to write!
On that note, please see last year's DYW letter if you'd like to see my post-Season 1 thoughts. I still want some of the same things, so some of the prompts below are similar. If you want to flat-out use a suggestion from last year that's still great!

Alright, let's get this part out of the way: Notice I requested Gansey, Ronan and Noah. I deliberately did not request Adam. I get that Adam and Ronan are canon, and my preferences here go against that. However, for personal reasons, I do not much like Adam. I respect him as a character, and I'm certainly interested in his story arc, but there a few things about his narrative that make me uncomfortable reading about him, and I'd like not to deal with that in Yuletide. I'm sorry, since most people really love him, but those are my preferences and I was careful not to request him!

- Plot! I realize this is a stretch a lot of times, because the word requirements here are only 1k, but I'm putting this here because, you know what, I have read some freaking fantastic 1.5k plotty fics. Also, one can dream. So: plot. Don't care what. If you care enough about what you're writing to make it complex, I'm all in from the word go. Realistically, having to choose between a fic with plot and a fic with a lot of shippy elements, whether it's romance, porn, whatever, I'll probably like the plotty one better.
- Humor. I will read crack fic. I will read absurdist and surrealist fic. I will read anything that makes me laugh. I love everything from puns and bad jokes to satire and entire comedies of errors. If it can be describe as: witty, clever, cracky, funny, over the top, and so on, I will probably enjoy it.
- Characters getting together! This may come below plot but I do still like it, obviously. I am not that radical a member of fandom.
- Happy endings.
- Soulbonding/soul mates!
- Accidental/arranged marriage!
- Sex pollen!
Please do not include:
- Character Death. Reference to canonical character death is acceptable; killing a character in your fic will make me close out. Some people enjoy death fic, and sometimes it's necessary for plot; I am not one of those people, and please do not write me one of those plots.
- Non-con. Like character death, I will not read rape fic; I understand this can be occasionally tricky, particularly since I do enjoy dub-con, but let's just say that if either character would get up after and genuinely wish it hadn't happened, it's non-con of the kind I don't like.
- Unhappy endings. I will take neutral endings if I must, but especially for a holiday challenge, I would like something that leans towards the overtly happy. Please no unhappy endings, even if it doesn't involve death or non-con.
- Original Characters in major roles.
- Kidfic! Totally opposite end of the spectrum, but kidfic has to be done so specifically for me to enjoy it that it's best to avoid. When done in a way that works for me, it's automatic re-read material, but maybe one in ten kidfics hits that, and if they don't, they make me rant, even when they're, objectively and to anyone else, perfectly wonderful fics. I'm just odd about kidfic, okay. This does include things like pregnancy fic, regardless of the sex and gender of the pregnant person.
- PWPs. Okay, so I love porn. Give me porn, if you like! I mean that honestly! If there's some particular kink you've wanted to write for one of these fandoms, go for it; there are very few kinks I cannot do, and those are explicitly listed on the next line. I just do not want a fic that is 1k of the middle of a sex scene with no characterization or plot. If you want to Yuleporn it up, go for it, but make the sex mean something, please - note: in the case of kink(s), focusing on why that kink or even how they got there or, you know, any sort of kinky growth does also count for me as characterization!
- Kinks I Cannot: Scat and watersports, though enemas/fisting/rimming et al. are all fine; public humiliation, including public voyeurism; intergenerational incest and please no fantasizing about it, so no Daddy/Mommy kink; and infidelity kinks, including cuckolding where the husband/wife watches - I don't like this, though I do understand the appeal; if this comes up, please just stick to voyeurism kink on the part of the husband/wife/boyfriend(s)/girlfriend(s).

- Prequel fic! While the Chronicles are fun, I have to admit I was a little disappointed by the actual relationship development in The Crown Tower, because while it great until they met, it just sort of...ended. Hadrian saves Royce's life and they decide to keep working with each other! Great! ...what now? How do they actually become friends? I'd like scenes where they disagree - not about morals, as they frequently do throughout the whole series, but maybe about little things, like what foods are disgusting or if there are cities one or the other hates. Or Hadrian wants to know everything about Royce and won't back off, and Royce is really ticked off by Hadrian's nosiness. What do they find to bond over? Friends either start off with things in common or learn to share interests with each other; thieving cannot be the only thing they both like (especially since Hadrian doesn't always like it that much)!

- A canon-AU where young Sam Vimes meets Vetinari from Night Watch era and they become allies who snipe at each other. Vetinari makes sure Sam knows how important the Watch could be one day! Sam hates the upper class and bloody assassins but helps Vetinari on his rise to the top anyway!
- Vetinari and Vimes get involved in something dangerous and/or are trapped somewhere and have to work together, as in, face-to-face cooperation. I'm not aiming for surprise at each other's abilities here, because I honestly think they're both well aware of what the other is capable of at this point; more that they've rarely had to spend extended time together (that the books show us) and I think that trapped-in-a-closet vibe would be hilarious.
- Vetinari backstory! We know he was from the upper classes, and that he was friends with Lady Sybil, but what was he actually like? Why did he become an assassin? Just for the prestige, or was there ambition already? When did he decide to rule Ankh-Morpork and how did he manage it?
- This idea is a little more nebulous, but I like stories about loyalty and loyalty struggles, so something about Vimes having to consciously decide to trust (or not!) Vetinari to have the best interests of Ankh-Morpork/the Watch in some situation would be great. It could also be a more personal struggle, like maybe Vetinari needs to temporarily retire Vimes, either to make space for a new guy Vetinari needs something from, or to discredit Vimes' reputation for some reason. Just anything that examines how trust works in a relationship between a corkscrew-honest benign overlord and distrustful anti-authoritarian bastard.
- She has wonderful hobbies, including dragon-breeding and charity hospital-opening.
- Sam loves everything about her; everything.
- She is on a first name basis and friends with Vetinari. They grew up together!
- He respects her so much that the mention of her is Vimes's trump card in an argument with Vetinari, who otherwise controls everything ever.
- Have some meta posts. Okay I lied, that last one's basically just the cutest over-40's flirting ever.

I won't be reading the third book until early November, so until then everything here is based on the first two books. I may or may not change this then; depends if reading the book changes my requests (probably will, but we'll see!).
Alright, let's get this part out of the way: Notice I requested Gansey, Ronan and Noah. I deliberately did not request Adam. I get that Adam and Ronan are canon, and my preferences here go against that. However, for personal reasons, I do not much like Adam. I respect him as a character, and I'm certainly interested in his story arc, but there a few things about his narrative that make me uncomfortable reading about him, and I'd like not to deal with that in Yuletide. I'm sorry, since most people really love him, but those are my preferences and I was careful not to request him!

But if that's not enough on Gansey, read this. I basically agree with it completely, and Gansey and Ronan know each other so well, and they take care of each other! Nobody really takes care of Gansey, but Ronan at least notices! I like friends (or more-than-friends) who accept and need and take care of each other.
And Noah?

- I requested all three because I would really really love backstory! Show me Gansey meeting Ronan; were they instant friends? Who approached who? How did they meet? Gansey thinks about how Ronan is so different after his father's death, maybe it would be nice to see how he changed? And Noah! Nobody noticed he lived at Monmouth? How did that work? Ronan and Noah are (slightly unconventional) BFFs; seeing how they got to know each other would be adorable. Was Noah surprised when they moved in? Did people usually see him, or were they the first? Anything like this would be perfect.
- Anything exploring Ronan's dream thieving and practical (or impractical) applications. Gansey and Noah helping him practice now Kavinsky is gone? Gansey finding out about the drugs they used and being angry about it? Once Ronan gets a handle on it, does he just fuck around with it? Little things, to not stress Cabeswater, but to have some fun with it? He threw Noah out a window, wouldn't Noah encourage him to
- Ronan and Gansey kind of have a D/s vibe. Gansey is constantly telling Ronan want not to do, and Ronan doesn't hate it because it means Gansey cares about him. Anything exploring this would be interesting; not just in a normal pairing way, but it would also be interesting if explored through a platonic lens.
- All of these prompts are cute.
- I ship Gansey and Ronan, but I would also be 100% behind Ronan/Noah. I love how amused Ronan and Noah are by Noah being dead, and how protective Ronan is of Noah anyway.
- If you want to write fic during the series, please do feel free to include Blue and Adam, I just don't want fic focused on Adam. Blue/Noah and Blue/Gansey are great as pairings too. I didn't request her, though, so this is only if you want to. I'm also totally okay with OT5 and polyamory. And I love Blue and Ronan's interactions.

All said and done, if you're one of those people who works best of their own inspiration, remember Optional Details Are Optional and write what speaks to you!
