Car Shopping

In the beginning of the year, we knew we had to get a new car pretty soon. We've put some money aside for it and started automatic deductions from our checking account to our savings to simulate a car payment. None of us have ever had a car payment and I'm not looking forward to it at all. We don't really have a time frame as to when we want to ( Read more... )

My mom has a Subaru Forester and she is in love with it...and two of her friends actually rushed off to buy her own after they saw/rode in hers. I agree--it's an excellent car, and I like it because it's roomy like an SUV but it drives like a car, which is great. Good luck on your choice!

That's so good to hear! Everyone we know who has a Subaru just loves their car so much. We don't know anyone with a Forester though. It did drive like a car and that's what I liked about it. We're still doing our research but it looks like the Forester is the front runner right now.

I have never bought a car for myself personally. Fsil bought several used cars before buying a new one due to the young kiddies. Something to keep in mind. They weren't sure if a new one would be something they wanted for a while and this way when she changed her minds and the family expanded, she got it to suit her.

I'm impressed that you've already started the hardest part -- integrating the car pyt into your budget! I also think Subarus are not that cute, but there is a high demand for them. They are supposed to be good cars. I don't blame you for your decision being based on style. I figure they all break down eventually, so I may as well look cute while I'm driving it.

Simulating the car payment was Wilson's great idea. I cannot take credit for that one. It's nice because we don't really feel the deduction and the transition into having a car payment will be much easier. I think the more I look at the Subarus, the more they grow on me. Plus, a friend told me yesterday that she thought they looked like mini Land Rovers. I have to admit that that made me like them a tiny bit more.

Yeek, I don't even want to think about days when we'll have car payments once again... I'm willing to milk out every mile out of my little Corolla from college! John has an Accord, and I love everything about that car. He thought about getting an SUV, but because of gas prices we opted for the Accord. Those cars are definitely cute though, and I do think with kids, it would be much easier with a bigger car. Let us know what you guys decide on!
