Plagiarist!

Jun 06, 2011 23:27

Ladies and gentlemen, I have my first plagiarist!

This fic here apppears to have lifted directly from my fic Adventures With Porn. I have taken screencaps of the post.

It is possible the user in question has ripped off from other authors. Please take a moment to read the post and see if you recognize anything else.

Let me make this very clear. ( Read more... )

It is hard to say who she's lifted what from. She's very cleverly (intentionally or not) disguised it with really bad grammar and spelling. She's not someone I am likely to read ... maybe you should also give a heads up to the other comms she is posting to. Newer readers will go all a flaily and not know. But the mods of the other comms and long time members will recognise also other peoples work.

Thank you for the heads up ... will take a quick scan to see if I recognise other people's work. She has a masterlist of favourite stories and authors ... so maybe it'll make it easier for other authors to see too if she's pinched stuff from others.

Sorry this had to happen to you.

She seems young, so I suspect this was just a not very well-thought out kind of decision. Hopefully she's reasonable and apologizes and everyone can just move on.

I dunno about her motives but ... I left a comment on both part one and part two of her installments and then I checked back to read it ... she's f-locked her post. So I don't know ... do you recognise this as yours or anyone elses ( ... )

I definitely agree with telling the fic comms about this. I actually followed the link to her facebook and apparently she graduated from university in 2007, so the 'young and impulsive' thing no longer applies. :/

I tried to read that fic before but couldn't continue it because of the bad storyline and color changes. Could you tell what she plagiarized, do you mean the plot or the lines?

She directly lifted several paragraphs from the mid-to-end of my fic; I think she changed one word, other wise everything is identical. It's very, very obvious. :/

Yes I noticed it too now!!! That's copy-pasting!!!

How could she ever thought it would go unnoticed?!

I'd also write a comment to that fic. Now, with her English, it's certainly weird how she could picked words such as "tounged", "coiling", "subsided", "twisting flick", "fisting", and "reverently"

Oh, and luckily you read that fic, so you could take care of the problem. Perhaps we should be more careful with other new fanfic writers too?

I see this post and try to read the fic..
..sadly I can't finish it. I can't stand it, the color and many other thing. Just read the first word in some sentence and it is exactly like yours.
Recently we got many new fic writer in fandom, but the quality is not that great.
I feel sorry that this happen to you. I surprise you found that fic. Are you just stumble on that? is it posted in arashirabu?

I don't think it can really be blamed on her being new; any writer should know that stealing is wrong. And since she obviously is trying to hide what she did and shift blame, she knows its wrong too. :/

dramaticsurgeon let me know; I never would have seen it without her. Apparently it was posted to arashirabu.

Yeeeeeeeeeah. She's not really fooling anybody with that, I think. According to her facebook, she's more than old enough to know better, too. :/

What's comical is the vast difference in grammar, style and quality between the plagiarized section and the section immediately after that. It's obvious that the same person did NOT write both sections.

There's even a huge difference in style between the first section and the second section, which I think suggests she stole from more than just me. Clearly she did not really think this through at all.

Well, her journal's been deleted so it seems like she's just running from the problem. Here's hoping she learned a lesson during all this and doesn't try it again. Though I'd be kinda vigilant.
