As someone that quilts, unless you think quilting is going to become a hobby, I would just buy it. If it is handmade $150 is a good price. The baby quilt I am making for my brother? The material was ~$40, the batting was $15, the thread was $10. It took me, so far, about 20 hours and I still have about 15.
The design on the quilt you linked to is much more complicated.
Thanks for the insider info, bertine. I have zero sewing skills, so I think it's alright to buy this quilt. I can knit myself a beautiful throw to layer with it and feel like I've met my "handmade quota."
