Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility. I tried to say that to you some time ago and I couldn't.

I'm not sure, really. It's from an essay, not a poem, so it's not fair that I wouldn't have been able to say it. Or even think of it. I guess maybe because it's about poetry, or maybe it's too poetic.

Do you believe it? Can poetry exist without a spontaneous overflow of feelings, or are they essential?
