I don’t remember how old I was when I saw a cat catch a bird on the school playground. It must have been in kindergarten… first grade. It doesn’t matter. I was reading when I heard this noise. It was-there’s nothing to compare it to. I dropped my book and went to find what had made it and, under the old jungle gym that no one played on ( Read more... )

Yes. Organ removal may be been involved.

You're not connected to this? None of your friends are?

Would you like me to write out that I did it and sign it while I'm at it, Justin?

Not unless you did do it.

Oh, poor bird. And you can cry. It's allowed. Sometimes we all need a good cry.

I almost don't wanna leave the apartment with all the warnings lately.

I agree, although it's hard to unlearn what's been taught.

If you can, you might want to stay in. The warnings haven't been put up for no reason.

It is. I thought I was really a princess for years until my dad broke it to me that we weren't royalty. He just liked calling me his little princess. Not... that that... compares with the no crying thing. Just...

I talk too much.

I'll stay in today... and maybe tomorrow. Except for work.

I'm sure you never stopped being a princess in your father's eyes. What's in your blood hardly matters.

Can you walk to work with someone? There is some truth to "safety in numbers."

Sometimes I think it's the world as a whole that doesn't matter, much.

All worlds, or just the ones we're from?

All worlds. And-- well, of course the whole world matters, but... I don't like thinking that something doesn't matter, just because it's small. Small things matter more than big things when they hit closer to home...

Yet some small things don't hit close to any home. Those are the ones that have little or no significance.

Did you tell anyone that he talked to you like that?

I would have cried.

No. It didn't seem important.

He talked to everyone like that, anyway.
