[Tuesdays are Justin's day off. He has decided to spend this particular Tuesday near the fountain. It's not the sort of place he favors--too many people, too much noise--but there is a perfectly good reason to brave the crowds today.

He's hunched over a book, glancing up occasionally to see if there are any familiar faces.]

[ If Justin bothers to look up, he'd find a young woman standing there, head inclined at the empty seat beside him. She looks out of a picture book from the 1920s. Bobbed hair, slip dress, cloche on her head. ]

[Oh. It's a woman. That--well. That makes speaking rather difficult, of course, but it wouldn't do to be impolite.]

This...? No. No, it's--you can sit. If you want.

[ So sit she does, with a small oof, the way someone might after a very long day. Once seated, she goes about unwinding her scarf; wherever she was at the time was chillier than it is today. The weather's mild considering the time of year. She winds the scarf into a neat ball with her hands, as she surveys the crowds of people. ]

When I got up this morning and thought to myself it was time for a change of scenery, this wasn't quite what I had in mind.

[Justin does his level best to avoid looking at her. He does, however, put his book down.]

It's jarring. The City--it's a lot to get used to. Where were you? Before this?

I guess some things are harder to predict than others.

[Have a cautious smile. Justin remembers Haruhi, but he's not sure that Haruhi remembers him.]

And some things are unpredictable.
