Entry of Brain Meltdown-ness

Apr 23, 2008 21:53

So, recently I have gotten back into the Gundam Wing fandom.

Oh no!

Lol, yeah, basically.  I have been rewatching the series and even dug out my mangas of it the other day (does it really count as digging if they're on a bottom shelf behind french books?  I think so.) and flipped through them today.  And what does this leave me at?  Brain ( Read more... )

Well hello there! If you are who I think you are (Lune-Soleil from FFN?) then I am friending you, because we Mariemaia fans gotta stick together!

But on this subject...I always rather thought that there was a time lapse at the very end of GW the series, between when the war actually ends (Christmas) and when Relena's birthday rolls around and Heero sneaks her a birthday present. I think the lapse could easily be a few months, because Relena ain't the Vice Foreign Minister when Heero's shooting down that last bit of Libra, but she's changed her hair and seems pretty well settled into that job when Heero next sees her. Also, at Treize/Zechs' graves, it seems like Noin and Dorothy have been going there for a while. So those last few minutes are a a few months after the war ends. I think. Maybe.

...And in the year since you made this post, you may well have already come to that conclusion youself. In which case, just "hi" from me. :)

I am indeed this person! Lol. Yes, yes we do. ::friend's back:: Annnnnd I have three Mariemaia fics in the making (gasp!). I just have to edit them lol.

Yes, I thought about that. But I can't remember where/when I heard it but I was always under the impression that the war lasted a year. I know it was called "The Eve War/s" or something similar but I think one of the mangas (and I know how reliable those are) mentioned it as also being year-long. Now, this could be like the Seven Years War which didn't last that long or whatever. And I agree, Relena does seem rather settled and I always thought there was a bit of a time lapse. But then my brain goes through all that actually happens in the series and while yes it could feesibly be done in eight months, my brain just boggles at the thought. Especially counting all the random time gaps (Heero's month long coma, Heero and Trowa's random roadtrip, Relena being able to set up a school for instances ( ... )

Oh yes, that would leave a few spare months at the beginning, wouldn't it. *ponders* I don't recall the series itself (as opposed to the manga, which I haven't read) ever saying that the war was supposed to last a year, although I do feel you're right that it's sort of commonly accepted knowledge. But I think it's called the Eve War because it ends on Christmas Eve (and similarly, I think Mariemaia's rebellion occurs at Christmas Eve the year following). As for all those time lapses etc within the series I can't say I've tried to make a specific timeline that includes them all, although come to think of it that might be quite helpful! I wonder if anyone else has! But given all the other random little nit-picky things one can come up with that's wrong with the series, it wouldn't surprise me if parts of the timeline just weren't well thought out either. When in doubt, blame the creators, that's my motto! :P

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I'll maybe try to take some actual notes or something my next go through the series, haha. :)

It is a conundrum, huh? Lol. I'm sure there is a timeline out there somewhere, it's simply a matter of finding it. And finding a good one too. Lol. And yes, I have no idea where my notion of it lasting a year came from but others I've spoken with also had that impression. It just drives me insane because I am a very timeline oriented person.

I plan on doing that too. I've a notebook set aside for it.
