Hate crimes should be something across the board. Their should not have to be an addendum for gays...or women...
And before I get blasted, what I mean is, it should cover EVERYTHING and I do not believe that there should be one specifically to protect gays.
Unfortunately that is what some people seem to be trying to do or how the press makes it out.
It should protect you against crimes due to gender, orientation, race, EVERYTHING.
Does that make sense?

In fact, I remember hearing Bush speak in regards to the Byrd murder years ago (Byrd was an African American male who was dragged to death behind a truck and beheaded by two white supremacist males.)

Bush was asked "Why didn't you charge the assailants with a hate crime?"

His response?

"I did. They were charged with MURDER. I can't think of anything more hateful than that."
