Part 4
Jack couldn’t sleep for very long. When he was immortal he didn’t sleep at all and it was still strange for him to actually sleep for long periods of time.
He looked at the journal on the table beside him. He picked it up and noticed there was a piece of new paper stuck in at the back. He pulled it out and placed the journal back on the table. Getting comfortable, he opened the paper and started to read Ianto’s neat handwriting.Jack,
I don’t know if you will ever get a chance to read this. I hope that you do because that means I will get to see you again.
As I am writing this, you have now been gone for about four months. Everyone still misses you. But I guess you found the right kind of Doctor after all. You’re probably wondering how I know about him. I worked in London, remember? We all knew about him. Tosh met him when he had a different face. I don’t know if you heard anything about a pig pilot a few years back? Well Tosh was brought in to look for any new tech on him and that’s how she met him. It was only for a few minutes but she said he made a lasting impression on her and that he told her he tends to have that effect on people.
But I guess you already knew that. Tosh and I then told the others about him and what we knew. Owen remembered his name from when he first read the Charter but had just forgotten about it. But that’s Owen for you - if there’s nothing to do with beer, women or weevils then he’s not interested.
We started looking anywhere we could think of for you. But we knew if you were with him then you could be anywhere. After about three months, the others thought it would be a waste of time to keep looking as there was only a small chance you were still on Earth and even if we did find you we had no way of getting to you. Tosh could see how much hurt it was causing me to have to let you go but I knew I had to.
Why did you have to leave like that, Jack? I know why you left but you could have at least left a note or something for us all. What was I meant to think? You kissed me in front of everyone (took you long enough) and then about an hour or two later you just left to be with him. But then you always did like going head first as I recall.
But I know that the question on your mind has nothing to do with this. You want to know about me. What have I done without you and do I have someone new. I’m sorry Jack, but I can’t answer those questions. If you really want to know then you are going to have to ask me personally. I would rather we do it that way rather then you just reading it on a piece of paper. I’m sorry for having to do it this way and if you are reading this and somehow I am now dead then you will no doubt research me through my past and find your answers.
But there is one thing I will tell you - When you died destroying Abbadon, I thought I would never get the chance to tell you how I truly felt about you.
I was right.
Ianto hadn’t written anything after it. Jack now realised how much he had hurt the young Welshman. He never meant to hurt Ianto. After he had been brought back by Gwen then he was going to sit down with Ianto and sort things out between them and decide whether or not to continue whatever it was they had.
Jack got up from his seat and walked down to Ianto’s bedroom. He stood at the half open door and watched him sleeping - he was so beautiful lying there, body totally relaxed with a small smile on his face. Without thinking Jack walked over to the bed and placed a delicate kiss on Ianto’s forehead before leaving the room again
“Sweet dreams, cariad” He said softly as he closed the door
