What: A casual meeting.
Where: The library.
When: Now.
They didn't waste their time getting to the library. Not really because Spike was that anxious to get some answers, but as it turned out, watching his comfortable little shack slowly rot around them wasn't nearly as entertaining as one might think. It didn't take long before he was willing to take his chances with the monsters (or whatever they were) just to get some fresh air. Not that he had anything to worry about. Technically speaking. Although leaning had become a little more dangerous when he started running the risk of falling through walls. So he stood by the front entrance with his hands in his pockets while they waited, doing what he could to look unfazed by the cheap horror film going on around him.
You really could get used to anything.
Even the occasional visitor from his past life. His old partner was taking it better than he probably would have. Maybe Jet was still in shock over the whole thing. He couldn't quite figure out what he was thinking or what he remembered -- they didn't talk about the past before, they weren't going to start now -- but the least Spike could do was pretend that it was like old times. Just another bounty in some rundown city.
Bringing a kid along with them was a something he was expecting to regret, but he figured he might come in handy if they needed a distraction. And as confusing as everything was, Ritsuka seemed to know more than either of them.
Spike would be lying if he said he knew what he was doing. Having anything explained to him sure hadn't done him a lot of good so far. And if the woman they were meeting really could somehow magically restore the city and was choosing not to, he didn't honestly think they'd have much of a shot of talking her into it. But for the sake of appearances, he didn't let on that he didn't have a plan. Usually got him better results anyway.
With a weighted sigh, he glanced back towards the streets. It was so much easier when Spike could have told himself he was stuck in the afterlife and he was just cashing in on all the bad karma he had stacked up over the years. Or maybe he was still dreaming.
He'd think about it later.
