Seemed like Spike was late. If he ever left really left, he didn't remember any of it... and maybe that makes sense. He was dead back home, so there was nothing for him to return to once they kick him out. Took him a while to come around the docks again, but they were probably expecting him there. At least this place was more familiar. Run down and dingy, and that's what he always liked about it. Besides, where else was he going to go?

Doesn't take him too long to spot Smoker, talking with some guy he vaguely recognized. -- Recruiting again. Looked like he's starting right where he left off. Spike hung around the edge of the building, watching what's going on out front with a lit cigarette in his mouth. He'll wait until they're done, then see if there's anything to eat around there that hasn't gone bad. Hard to tell how long he'd been away, so that may be wishful thinking.

Here's hoping one of the new guys can cook.

After the Commodore was finished, he padded outside, one cigar in hand. He knew he was going through his supplies fast, but that was what Nuadoria did to him - upped the smoking, downed his belief in mankind. Vicious cycle, but he dealt with it the best he could. Sometimes, he screamed about it, threw something, and did his rounds to calm his temper. Sometimes he brooded. Actually, he brooded a lot ( ... )

Out of view, but not out of earshot, Lang's disembodied voice enthusiastically interviewed some poor soul. The recruit's replies varied: confused. irritated.

Fwippppp.Oh. There's that damn scroll.

There wasn't a lot of talking coming from Spike's end of the conversation, but that didn't mean he wasn't glad to hear Smoker. He came and went, everyone did, but usually the days he was around were better than the days he wasn't. While Spike didn't always share his work ethic, he could respect what he tried to do. And the bounty hunter owed him his life too many times over not to stand by him. Men and honor, something like that.

Spike grinned, still lingering at the edge of the building as he followed his gaze. If it had changed, he wasn't the one to notice. Not the type to think about those things too deeply; always seemed the same to him. "Nope. Not at all."

Finishing off his cigarette, he crushed it under his shoe. Everything seemed relaxing so far. Almost made him want to bet how long that was going to last, but Smoker might take it the wrong way, so he stuck to business instead. "How many have you got this time? --"

And that's when he heard the noises in the background and perked an eyebrow. Heh, glad he managed to skip that

Scully opted to take Smoker's advice from when they last spoke and found herself at the entrance to the Task Force. Hardly a satisying place, she mused as she wavered between knocking and entering on her own. It was a desolate place, not as run down as other building she had seen, but not anything appealing.

Mulder would have been disappointed if she didn't take initiative this time. With a steady hand she opened the door and made her way outside, her right fixed firmly on the gun in her holster if anything were to arise. So much for a task force. It didn't seem like much, a bunch of men milling around. Scully didn't want to interfere and made her way through the force, skirting the outside of the conversations as much as possible.

"It's not much, but it works." The gathering of smoke was a sure sign that Smoker was about. He formed, body pulling itself together from his logia. Pieces of him linked together a torso, legs, a face; it wasn't meant as a scare tactic, but with someone mulling about without a proper introduction? The Commodore wasn't going to take any chances. When he finally formed a solid body out of strings of smoke, he perched himself up on against a decrepit door way and exhaled, sending a thick cloud of cigar smoke into the polluted air.

"If you're here for sign ups, I'm the one you'll be speaking to." Smoker raised his gaze to Scully. "That is, if you still want the job - it won't be a walk in the park, I can tell you that much." He rubbed at the stubble on his chin.

"We can talk upstairs; that's where the rest of them have been going."

Pause.

"-if that's fine with you."

She turned around, blinking in surprise and coughing slightly from the smoke. "That amount of smoke can't be healthy for you."

Scully made her way towards the man, extending her hand as calmly as possible. "I think I can take care of myself in these circumstances. Seems like it's similar to the line of work I'm from." She glanced around looking for everyone else, following his words and then followed the rest of the force heading for the stairs.

"Lead the way then."

Smoker raised an eyebrow to that - yeah, everyone told him to stop smoking. He could only grunt at the notion as he rolled his shoulders back under his heavy coat. "Doesn't do anything to me," he stated blandly. "You'll learn soon enough."

His boots sounded heavy against the floor boards as he extended his own hand. "Familiar, huh? Used to this type of shit? Well." His cigars flared and his nostrils widened as he let a stream of noxious smoke out through his nose and teeth. "Then I won't have to explain that you will be handling a lot of situations that aren't normal. Most of the force isn't even quite human."

The Commodore released her handed and began taking the stairs. "Nuadoria is full of surprises - the more prepared you are, the better."
