The species identification is the X-S class child. Specifically, they are a type of parasite as they require a host to take on a malleable form. In exchange, they will provide combatant related assistance.
The current form you see them presented in is their defensive form. While they may all not appear to be particularly useful or threatening, they are indeed more than capable of providing you with suitable protection if the need arises.
They do have a second form, an attack form. However, until your life becomes threatened, it is improbable that it will mutate.
Please do not try to harm them, as they will incapacitate you for both their safety and your own. X-S class childs become more loyal and more powerful with a well developed connection their host, however they will protect you, regardless, as they are dependent on your existence to maintain their physical forms. It is unwise, likewise, to have them die in combat protecting you. You are bound to them as they are to you, and therefore they are now a part of your existence. If they perish in battle, you risk being critically or even fatally wounded as a result.
If the technicalities are difficult to understand, Grand Master Dai and Grand Mistress Ava have described them quite accurately. Although, I cannot speak on the Grand Master's opinion of their physical presentation. It does indeed seem to have something to do with the host it chooses, however.
