Random news story that made me type a lot. Perhaps enjoyable to others?

Saw this on AOL.

Eagle Scout (17 yo) Billed $25,000 For Rescue .

Long story short: Eagle Scout kid goes off trail, gets lost for 3 days, state orders rescue-stuff, kid is found. Big bill to pay for rescue-stuff, bill is given to kid/kid's parents to pay. Is this wrong/right?

I think the irony in the situation alone is enough to make him pay. YOU'RE A FREAKING EAGLE SCOUT! Aren't you supposed to be trained in outdoors stuff? Wouldn't "Not getting lost in the forest" be ONE OF THEM?

I looked at the story closer. He "wandered off the trail" and got lost.

I live in a city. Even I know when I go into the woods to stay on the trail. It's not a hard lesson to learn. See that sign reading "Trail", STAY ON IT. If he was, let's say, forced off the trail because of a wild animal/psycho Scout-Rapist I would be more lenient. But, with his own two feet, walked off into the forest.

People are commenting that, "...he's too young and doesn't know better". So, at 17 you have the earned right to learn to drive a car (a thing that can potentially kill anything you ram it into) but you don't have the mindset (as a SCOUT, a fucking SCOUT) to stay together in the forest and stay on the path?

The bill is a hefty $25,000. Too much? As another commenter noted "I'd pay $25,000 to have my kid safe and sound at home". I think the price tag is a tad extravagant, but I really don't know how much it is to get helicopters and the like.

I don't know why this story stuck out to me. I've spent the last 40-60 minutes typing this up and reading comments (whilst "Ojamajo Doremi: Sharp" ep 48 sits paused on my task bar). I don't know if its because I'm bored and this is making my brain think I'm being useful. I could be leveling up my lowly Fighter in Dungeons and Dragons Online (my WoW stand-in for an unknown amount of time {{Hey, it's free to play! --at least for now--}}) or, you know, looking for a job.

Perhaps it's from a small craving for human interaction; even if its in the form of a witty sentence and a funny userpic. I think my lack of going outside is starting to wear down my brain.
