How everything was forgiven so easily, how Marianne was completely shafted and the only characters who seemed to register how cruelly she'd been treated were the characters the author intended you to disagree with or dislike their actions.

When I read the part about her imagining coming into the room to tell Muffin they could go home, I had to stop reading and sob into my cat's fur for at least an hour.
