Asia!!!

So after all these years of talk, I'm finally going to Asia! The decision was made last week when my boss finally approved my 5 week sabbatical/vacation. I've booked my flights, gotten my shots, Lonely Planet books and visas and bought way too much travel stuff (flares and GPS locator not included) like a true rookie

So lucky! I've been planning my Asia trip for 2 yrs, and hasn't happened, so cross your fingers, I'm hoping I'm gonna go this Fall! Anyways, make sure u make some copeies of your passport. Have fun, and so excited for u. Man, my tour package was gonna be more time spent in VN though.

whoa, R! alone!?? kudos to you! i would not be able to do that myself! i actually was in vietnam for 3 weeks in january...are you taking a tour or trekking from saigon to hanoi on your own? whatever you do, don't go to sinh cafe! that was pretty shitty...but i guess it's all relative, since some of the other people thought it was great *shrugs*

No, I'm meeting friends after day 4 in Saigon but the first few days I'm on my own. No tour. Probably doing the train thing from Saigon to Hanoi with lots of stops in-between. If I decide to do a tour, I'll pass on the Sinh Cafe agency. Thanks and if you have any other advice, email me or send me an IM.

when you're in hanoi, you have to...HAVE to go to la vong restaurant...it's a restaurant that serves only one dish....if you like fish, you'll love it! it's buffet style, even though they bring the dish to your table...it's soooo good!

stick with saigon or tiger beer, the others are GROSS...

for your night in hk, try this hotel Bishop Lei (http://www.bishopleihtl.com.hk/), i know the website looks tacky, but this is prob the best deal among the other ones in similar price range. it's not located in one of those cramped, dodgy areas, and the rooms there are clean (i have a friend who stayed there before).
