When I first read this poem, I read it aloud aloud as one is supposed to do for poetry. After a moment of contemplation, I read it again aloud but VERY loud. I think I prefer the shouted audio format for this poem. It seems like the only poets to get shouted are the Beats and everyone else just gets read aloud solemnly like somebody's uncle's eulogy. I especially enjoyed barking out the words: the birds of spring LIKE SHOT-DOWN AIRPLANES; and INESCAPABLY LUSTFUL AND BILLOWING AND BLUE-GREY. Also, write more on your Gawd-Damn adventures. Seems like you haven't written much about adventuring since you left Portland and went to Austria. I miss your writing about adventuring, and if you need to leave Austria and move back to Portland to do so, then I, Dr. Thompson, and Mr. S. Jerusalem all must recommend it. Salutations, B.W.
