There are SOOOO many things that are stupid with that article.

One parent shared with Lampe that her daughter has been a victim of identity theft within the last year

Ok. For your high school student (who is presumably under 18) to be a 'victim' of identity theft via internet - chances are not only good, but 99.9% that it is the fault of your child's own stupidity. How is this possible?

Rather than worrying about how often google is "stealing" your child's name and listing it on their site, maybe you should concern yourself with what your child is DOING on the internet that is getting their name so easily googled. I google myself regularly, and I reccomend that everyone does, just to see what information about you is available.

But yeah, it's not google's problem if you don't know how to secure files. a-duh. And why does a school district have such sensitive information that's worth a lawsuit anyway? The article doesn't give good enough details, but it sure sounds like someone making a big stink about nothing.
