So is anyone going to actually explain what this "Hallows Eve" crap is about?

Halloween is an ancient holiday.

Some folklorists have researched its origins in the Roman feast of Pomona, which was a goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia.

However, it's usually linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain. The name of the festival was kept by the Gaels and celts living in the British Isles and is derived from Old Irish and basically means "summer's end". It did have some elements of a Festival of the Dead.

It's been twisted and warped throughout the years, and the holiday now has little to do with a 'Summers End' or harvest festival. - though it did retain a lot of those 'dead' elements. It's more about candy and dressing up in costumes. The original meaning is lost on most people in modern times.

[Speaking of.]

I believe the practice of dressing up in costumes and asking for treats on holidays dates back to the Middle Ages, though.

[SHALL SHE GO ON?]

So it's a completely pointless day that's nothing but an excuse to have a party.

That would depend on perspective, I imagine. [Samantha didn't do Halloween, really. Not since she was a kid. She just knew a lot about it from studies and research and being a nerd.]

It doesn't sound all that interesting to me.

It only interests me in the historical aspect. After primary school I didn't have time for dress up and candy.

I don't mind the candy. Costumes, not so much.

[Got a sweet tooth, Kloe?}

Yeah. [Though she's going to go up there and root around.]

I wonder if we'll get to keep the costumes when it's over.

[No. Maybe. Yes.]

Don't know, don't care.

I do. I'm sick of wearing this medieval crap. I didn't exactly have a suitcase on me when I got here.

[Just her carry on with all the important stuff in it.]

I have to admit, the clothes are pretty damn ridiculous.

I just wear the largest thing that'll fit.

[Screw dresses and skirts, man, she can't work in those.]
