Advertising Gone Wild...(Whips and Chains Are Now Mainstream?)

Got restraints?

No?  You may be the only one left who doesn't.

For the record, I consider myself to be an enlightened kind of girl.  I grew up in the city and the suburbs and for the most part don't consider myself to have led a sheltered life.  I spend a considerable amount of time on the internet and feel comfortable saying that my breadth of ( Read more... )

Oh wow, MiniCooper. It is ridiculously hard to keep sex out, especially on the internet.
BDSM, the really heavy stuff, scares the crap out of me. Breath play? Medical play? Electroplay? Nooooo thank you!

Whoa!

Thanks for your comment because I felt the need to clarify my statement about my tolerance for erotic content.

I sooo don't want any ambiguity as far as THAT's concerned!

*whew*

Wait...how did you not know it until a year and a half ago? I mean, Depeche Mode had a pretty popular song about the whole thing in the 80s...Master & Servant. It seems like it would creep into the occasional "real crime" show every now and then, or especially a movie. I mean, Pulp Fiction. Ball Gags! GIMP!

Now, what I don't understand is who practices it. And why? It seems like a lot of work. My sex life should not have to be more stressful than actual work.

Oh don't get me wrong, I knew about it. It just wasn't something I saw on practically a daily basis like now. Just this week our alternative newspaper has a lust issue, full of all sorts of kinky entertainment.

Seriously, it's everywhere.

It is, actually, very interesting how BDSM is becoming much more "main stream." It used to be said that being "into" BDSM in the 90s was the equivalent of being gay in the 50s. You just. Don't. Talk. About. It.

And now Mini Cooper is employing leather-wearing mistresses to use riding crops on cars?

Personally, it makes me happy (both on an advertising/pushing-the-envelope level and on a personal level).

But as with all things, some moderation is always nice.

Yes! This is really the heart of what I was getting at because truly I enjoy anything that challenges the "norm" in an intelligent/humorous/thought-provoking/provocative way, but the message isn't always appreciated or appropriate for all audiences.

And I got a chuckle out of SuperHappy's comment too because remember how shocking that scene was in Pulp Fiction when we saw it back in the 90's?

Now days it wouldn't get anywhere near the response it prompted back then.

One does have to pause and wonder, what next?

Everytime I find myself outraged by some song on the radio or something I see on the TV, I have to stop and wonder just how long before whatever it is that I've just seen/heard will be "the norm".

Ugh.

'Word' on the music. Seriously, I can't tell you what's on the radio anymore because everytime I get hopeful and turn on the local R&B/Pop/Hip Hop station my soul dies a little.

I've moved past outrage with regard to the music...It's all so mind-numbingly stupid at this point.

Advertising has gotten really crazy lately :| I don't know how I feel about it, but I'm going to look back on this entry when I'm not in a public place...

...The Dirty Show was awesome, though! :D Did you go?
