Cuban Policy

Let me first say, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Cuba. Any country that jails its dissidents, limits, if not bans free speech, and pretty much any country that eliminates democracy doesn't have high standing in my book ( Read more... )

I noticed a definite pattern with your examples...

China makes a lot of things we import.
Saudi Arabia is in the Middle East, which, as you know, equals OIL.
Singapore is another major trade country.

Of course we're not going to ban travel to countries we need stuff from. Cuba has absolutely nothing we need. That's just the way the government works, twisted but true.

For debate: Should we lift the ban on travel to Cuba? Is government policy, even the United States is hypocritical enough with so many other countries, more important than personal liberty?

What's your stance then?

We should lift the travel ban. Trade embargo is a completely different story.

Cuba seems to have a huge double standard with America as America does with Cuba..and thats where the problem lays. Since we (America) are so close to Cuba, we can't help but stick our nose in their business and try to help (hurting more than often).

I think we should lift the travle limits to cuba, but I don't think it's time to start to deal with them.

Fuck spell checking, I'm so tired x_X

Exactly. I'm cool with the embargo (although I think we should be cutting back with China as well), but we should be able to choose if we want to travel there

I agree, in theory it makes perfect sense to say you should be allowed to go anywhere you want. I don’t like government restrictions, not in the US, not in any country. So, the US shouldn't tell you that you cannot go there. They should just say "if you go there don't expect us to come save your ass if you get captured and held hostage". But I don’t think this would sit well with voters when, say, a bunch of college kids on vacation got into some kind of mess in Cuba ( ... )
