I recommend: Overton Park (I used to go to Memphis College of Art which is located here, along with an art museum, zoo, playground, etc.
Beale Street may be cliche, but I can always find something cool to do there, be it food, drinking, shopping, etc.
If you're in to modern lounges, restaurants, martinis, or just great food, etc., try BlueFin (on South Main); Do, The Beauty Shop, and Dish (all in Cooper Young), BonThai (in Central Gardens).
South Main Arts District is great, especially if you're there during the Trolley Tours (all the galleries open at night and have art shows).
There's a lot more, but those were the things that were at the top of my head.
