They had known each other since their trainee days, but never in their fantasies of life after the many hours spent training did they imagine that they would be debuting on the same stage on the same date-under different companies.
“H-hyung,” Yeoseob bowed and greeted Doojoon in the corridors of the MTV station. It was only right that he acknowledge the presence of his senior even though they technically were rivals-just for that period.
Doojoon nodded coldly back in response and stalked off to the opposite end of the corridor where his manager was.
Yeoseob could not help but feel a slightly hurt at the unreceptive and distant image that Doojoon had projected. Sure, they were from different companies, but that did not change the fact that they were once trainees together, and had suffered through terrible situations together. Surely that had not changed despite the fact that they were both to compete on the same stage for the rookie award.
Seeing Doojoon had the opposite effect of what Yeoseob had in mind. Where was the cheerful ‘hwaiting’ that he anticipated? Or the comforting smile that Doojoon used to give him? But he had no time to worry about all that now.
As the cheers from the crowds grew louder through the doors backstage, Yeoseob knew that he had to do this, with or without Doojoon.
He walked, each step heavy with anxiety and anticipation, his mind made up that he would put on a flawless performance. His manager’s reminder that he had five minutes to standby became a buzz, the last minute make up touches a flurry of actions before Yeoseob took that first step onto the stage.
The last thing he heard was loud shouts from behind him, and the crowds cheers had turned into gasps.

Doojoon did not imagine that things would turn out this way. He had known Yang Yeoseob for almost seven years and they had trained together and auditioned together. But he never thought that they would be accepted under two separate companies.
When Yeoseob released his debut song, in anticipation of his music video, Doojoon’s company had demanded that the finishing touches on Doojoon’s music video be rushed out and published before Yeoseob’s could. And just like that, a media war started, without consent from either party, they were caught in it-their friendship on the helm of destruction.
And when the day came for MTV’s showcase for debuting idols, Doojoon dreaded having to be called a rival to Yeoseob. Couldn’t they just be two different idols showing off their own different skills? Who gave anyone he right to label them as enemies in a music war.
The moment he caught a glimpse of Yeoseob down the hallway, he saw how Yeoseob too, was uncomfortable, saw his eyes shift in fear and trepidation. Unknowingly, Doojonn told himself, just act nonchalant, you don't know this Yang Yeoseob. He’s just some other artiste. And thus when Yeoseob bowed at a near ninety-degree angle to Doojoon, calling him hyung Doojoon did not know any other way to react save for the cold nod that he had been practicing in his own head.
And after doing that, Doojoon just thought to himself, oh crap, was that too much? Dang, well I can't take that back now! So he pretended to be distracted by his manager who stood across the corridor, minding his own business, leaving a very confused Yang Yeoseob behind.
He had planned to whisper a quiet ‘hwaiting’ from behind the curtains before Yeoseob went on but he was too late, for Yeoseob had already stepped out into the spotlight. But not too late to catch him as he tripped over.
He screamed a “YEOSEOB!” and ran up to his friend who lay still and for some reason, unconscious at the edge of the stage.
He did not care that a thousand cameras and fan girls were screaming their flashes and lungs out at the whole situation. He just had to get Yeoseob off the stage and somewhere where he could be tended to.
Neither did he care that he too, was supposed to debut that day.

When Yeoseob woke up, his head felt much lighter for there was no screaming nor flashing lights around him. He felt a warm hand slipped into his limp one on his side and saw the face of an old friend at his bedside looking intently into his eyes.
Then it hit Yeoseob.
He wasn’t supposed to be here. Neither was the man beside him.
He struggled to push himself off the reclined bed but found thin transparent wires impeding his movement. He was hooked up to a bag of saline solution, but other than that, Yeoseob was fine. Well enough to find his voice. “Doojoon, what the hell are you doing here? Don't you have a performance?”
“I promised we’d debut together didn't I?” and he saw that Doojoon’s smile had returned, just as how Yeoseob remembered it.
