science would have us believe, that what was true for us yesterday, and is no longer true for us today, was never true. experience would tell me that this basic tennet is misguided...
i also think there's a difference between following what feels right, and what feels good...(not to say that they're exclusive).
If you're of a scientific bent, you can test physiological and cognitive status as you engage in whatever practices you desire.
From a clinical perspective, there is little doubt that any activity that exhibits measurable therapeutic value -- even if caused by the placebo effect -- is of benefit.
Indicators such as normal blood pressure/heartrate/levels of cortisol and adrenalin, plus the ability to obtain adquate rest points to the parasympathic nervous system being in charge. This usually means the body has become a stable platform for healing at the cellular level.
The opposite is true if one is persistently or chronically triggering the sympathetic nervous system.
But then, my scientific side says there's no proof of any such thing and any perceived effects are purely caused by the human mind being more that capable and willing to trick itself and makes us feel/see what we want. Is it absolute that there is no life-form capable of creative design? No one knows
