I haven't heard anything from the school in the past few weeks about my financial aid (loans) and I'm getting anxious since school starts in just over a month so I e-mailed a lady at the financial aid office who I had previously contacted about getting another loan in addition to the original loan the awarded me.
So, this is what I wrote to her:
Good morning,
I just had a few more questions about the financial aid process. I have accepted both a subsidized loan and an unsubsidized loan totaling $6625. I believe tuition for the Internet Academy is around $2930 so that would leave me with over $3000 for books, etc. I was hoping I could buy used books on-line or at local bookstores (I live in the Albany area) rather than through the HCCC on-line bookstore to save myself some money. Also I would like to purchase a laptop computer to use for my classes and as I have read that is an acceptable school related expense on which to use my student loans. My question is how and when will I receive the remaining amount of money from my loans so I can purchase these things?
I haven't received in the mail a promissory note or any paperwork informing me of what to do after I have accepted the loans on-line (which I have done already) so I'm confused about the whole process. I mailed off the Certificate of Residence form the other day to my county Chief Fiscal Officer and I'm waiting for him to complete that. I wasn't sure if that was what was holding up the loan process or not. I'm just worried that with it being so close to the end of summer that I won't receive my loans in time.
Yeah, I'm too wordy and I have a hard time summing things up into short sentences (as I'm sure you all are quite aware of after reading my ramblings here on LJ) but at least I am nice and friendly about things.
Well this cranky ass twit sent the following response to me:
Refunds of financial aid are not available until the 9th week of
classes. We will send you information on your prom note shortly.
No "Hello" or "Sincerely" or anything, the reply was exactly as I posted it there. Maybe I'm getting bent out of shape over nothing but I'm seeing that as being rude, abrupt and not so helpful. She didn't even answer my specific questions. Shortly? Like how shortly? 2 days? 2 weeks? 4 weeks? My college education is kind of riding on this money. I see now that I won't be able to get a laptop until after classes start which sucks but I will manage and they better have my loans ready to go before classes start otherwise I won't be able to buy books since there is no way I could pay cash for them and wait to be reimbursed, and I don't have credit cards to use anymore.
I understand this lady is probably busy but it's not that large of a school and the other time she e-mailed a response to me she was equally as curt. Her job is dealing with the public, she is getting paid to interact with people and if she can't even manage to be helpful via e-mail then she shouldn't be employed by that school.
So now I'm still left hanging. Waiting for "shortly" to roll around so I can get this thing moving. It sucks that I have to wait to get the laptop because our computer at home is acting severely crazy lately. We might try reinstalling Windows but that means I have to burn all of my MP3s, photos & other things onto CDs. Cory just got an e-mail saying that our DSL is ready to go early so we can install it today if we wanted to. Before we do that we have to fix the damn computer though. I can't win.
