When I arrived at work about 30 minutes ago one of my coworkers informed me that Shirley (coworker that I posted about in my last entry) passed away last night

(((Sarah))) That's really sad, about Shirley. Sorry I didn't see your post yesterday (I just went back and read it). My dad was 55 when he died. It's way too young. It's always pretty shocking when someone dies before their 65th birthday. Don't feel guilty for wanting the time off, though. Death, illness, and birth are all a part of life, and companies should really be prepared for every contingency. They shouldn't expect you to change your plans just because it's not convenient for them. One thing I really hate about America is that we're expected to make work the most important thing in our lives. My job is such a tiny part of who I am, you know?
Oh hugs to you dear girl. Don't feel bad, as has already been said here, you weren't complaining about Shirley but the company and the position you were in with them. It sounds like Shirley was fun to work with. Go easy on yourself, death is shocking and sad and you are allowed to feel like that.
Thanks girls! I'm still feeling cruddy and sad. I know I shouldn't feel guilty about wanting my vacation time but I do and you are right Heather, about being expected to make work our #1 priority. It's really ridiculous and frustrating.
After all of the complaining I did yesterday about taking the day off Friday I'm going to come into work that day anyway, no one told me I had to, it was my choice, but I will explain that more later on.
so sorry. That's really sad. Don't feel bad about complaining yesterday. You even said that you were complaining about the management, not about Shirley being sick, which you felt bad for. Take care.
