apples & free time

So, the Apple Festival was good. Sales were down this year, despite better weather and what seemed like more people attending this year. My dad only sold about half of what he did last year, which sucked but the other vendors that we talked to had the same problem. I guess people are just feeling more stingy this year. We did get invited by some ( Read more... )

Hey sarah. If you are that nervous about voting you could vote by absentee ballot. Just call your office of voter registration and they will mail the card to you. Then just check the box that says you plan to be out of town on nov 2nd and vote. We had one of those mock elections when I was in grade school, same election. lol I voted for ross perot cause I thought he was funny looking.

That's a good idea! That would be much less stressful.

Ha! Ross Perot, I completely forgot about him. He was very funny looking, kind of like an old chicken.

You push buttons to vote?! Is that why they had chad issues in Florida last time?! We still use paper and pencils - how quaint.

I wish we used pencil and paper for voting! I think there are different forms of voting booths all over the US, it all depends on what your local area has. I am pretty sure the one I used in school had buttons and levers and all sorts of weird things. It was rather old looking and complicated.

I think in some booths you put a card in the machine, then push some buttons and it punches a hole in the spot for the person you are voting for, but in the case of the Florida-chad issue, the holes weren't punched in the correct spots or something like that. The voting system in the US is just mind boggling.

I think that's cool. I wish we did that and you'd just go up to a big wooden box and slip it in. Our voting machines used to be the lever ones where you pull the thingy and the curtain closes. For this election we got new electronic (computerized I think) voting machines. I haven't seen them yet.

you can do it! laurasia October 4 2004, 21:12:59 UTC
register as soon as you can! Voting isn't so hard. Also, if you are nervous about the actual voting, remember, you can ask the poll workers for help. That's what they're there for and I don't think anyone will think any less of you...especially in these days, where it's so important that you do the punch card thingie right (if your district has punch card thingies). Besides, if you get it over with now (in an important election), next election you'll feel more comfortable about voting.
