i don't get it. when my grandfather was my age he managed to own a home in long island and raise 7 children on a single income.

I sometimes feel that way about myself...and then I remember that America is a gigantic corporate heavy-petting zoo, and if you don't have the connections, greed, or conceit, the chances are in the realm of dumb luck that you can make a comfortable living doing work that doesn't make you want to balance your chin on a shotgun at the end of the day.
Damn...that sentence was unnecessarily long. Unfortunately for anyone who reads this, I'm way to lazy to edit.
