I am not sure how the impending budget cuts at Georgia Southern are going to impact the upper level courses for writing. From what I've heard, they are going to offer some on an alternating schedule. I assume that this will require those courses to have a larger size and therefore a less personalized feel. That is quite unfortunate considering ( Read more... )

It's ridiculous - how do they expect these professors of upper level courses to really go over that much writing?

We're dealing with a bunch of this shit over in the UC system too along with fee hikes of 32%. I heard that other state schools here were shutting down language programs insofar as major/masters are concerned.

The only rational conclusion I can figure is that the state wants the university to rely on upper division students that act as teacher's aids. Although in our university I've never seen that happen in the writing/linguistics or english program.

Honestly I think their plan is to cut our budget, make changes that seem plausible, and let the faculty/staff pick up the pieces as an after-thought.
