PB: Seung Ri
Age: 20
Birthday: January 23
Blood type: AB [Cool, controlled, rational. Critical, indecisive.]

Born in: Akabira, Hokkaidō, Japan
Hometown: Sapporo, Hokkaidō, Japan
Current Residence: Tokyo, Japan
Area of Study: Biology major, zoology minor (specializing in entomology)
Outside Work: Iaido club; research assistant, library intern
Personality: Shino is a fairly social creature. He likes to smile, talks easily, and revels in the time he’s allowed to spend with his friends because it just feels so damn good to be open and sharing and having opinions.
That is, for an Aburame.
Compared to the ‘normal’ world of not-his-family, Shino comes off as fairly reticent. He tends to keep his thoughts and opinions to himself when there isn’t glaring error to correct or a direct question addressed toward him. He’s the sort of person who’s constantly analyzing a situation, keeping everything in his head until it’s fully formed before letting it out into the real world. That said, his verbal tact has often been noted to be… slightly lacking. All that quiet thinking brings him to the right answers, not necessarily the nice ones.
When first getting to know him as a student and worker, people are often impressed by Shino’s level head and innovative solutions to problems. When first getting to know him in a social setting, people often find Shino unapproachable and a little unduly harsh (because of his lack of a brain-to-mouth politeness filter). People who actually know him well enough to penetrate the bubble of solitude, however, tend to consider him a ‘nice’ boy, the sort you’d bring home to mother if he weren’t so goddamn weird around people he didn’t know well.
Then again, lots of things about Shino are weird… or at least, a little off-beat. He’s always had a preternatural affinity for creepy-crawly things; it makes him great to have around when you need to get rid of a spider, of course, but does nothing for the state of his dorm… or his social life. Shino established fairly early on in his life that it was more interesting to sit around with a book on entomology or studying a jar full of ants than to go out and attempt to make friends. The madness may have changed-it’s a broader range of books to study these days-but the method remains the same: if given the choice, Shino will opt out of interaction in favour of sitting by himself somewhere dark and quiet. It’s not that the right people couldn’t pull him out of his shell; it’s just that he rather enjoys the solitary confinement.
Likes: Vegetable salad, tea, entomology, Darwin, silence, libraries, dusty books, classical music, Shogi
Dislikes: Tofu balls, strong-smelling food, too much butter or MSG, noisy people, Halma, holidays
Trivia: + When Shino ‘grows up,’ he plans to travel to South America to further pursue his studies of entomology and hopes ultimately to be an academic like his parents.
+ Although both his parents travel abroad frequently, Shino has never been out of Japan.
+ Shino has played the piano since the age of 4 and has been known on occasion to fool around with the guitar.
+ During most of his parents’ separation, Shino has lived with his father. Perhaps because of this, he maintains a much more cordial and polite relationship with his mother and women in general.
+ The only ‘real’ pet Shino ever (briefly) had was an older tabby with FeLV named Nori. Perhaps in reaction to the lack of an actual cuddly pet in his life, Shino has named almost every spider he’s encountered in his father’s lab.
+ One of Shino's ambitions is to become a competent student of languages. His native language is Japanese, he speaks passable business English and a scattering of conversational Chinese and Korean. The language he hopes to properly acquire as a functional second language is Portuguese.
Background: Some children are raised in bright cheery nurseries with lots of colours and shapes to stimulate their minds. And some children are raised in brightly lit university laboratories with lots of biology students and tiny insects to captivate their attention. The Aburame family raised their children in the latter environment.
Shino comes from a scholarly, fairly well-to-do and intensely quiet family with a long history of weak eyes. An only child, he was raised in a world of academic adults without much interaction among peers of his own age. After a brief stint of being dragged around the country by his parents, Shino was finally settled into something of a ‘normal’ life at the age of 12. The socialization process was difficult and unhappy for him, the sort of thing that never actually stuck with him, particularly when his parents began drifting apart and eventually parted ways.
School was painful, a long awkward experience he was ready to get away from as soon as possible-that is, from secondary school, as he was fairly certain university would be some sort of hyper-intellectual sanctuary. It was difficult, of course, to think about leaving the safe haven which was his home nest, so Shino very wisely split the difference and threw himself into academics, a familiar field which had allowed him to escape his slightly disjointed childhood.
Then, of course, he was actually at university. There was a lot more talking, a lot less time when he was actively allowed to hide, a lot fewer people who were willing to let him live his own life in his own quiet corner of the world. As an added bonus, it became increasingly isolating to live on his own when he parents decided to separate while remaining married. After an initial period of resistance, Shino began working his way into the system. He learned to talk about things other than his major, joined a club that helped him keep his mind in a state of calm and let himself smile from time to time. If he couldn’t be a recluse, he would learn to live with the swarm.

Relations:
Family
- Aburame Shibi = Throughout the twists and turns of his life at home, Shino always remained in his father's care. Although they rarely speak, he feels immensely close to his father and works in his own quiet way to better himself in an unconscious desire to make his father proud. Both of Shino's parents work in the academic field; his father is a specialist in the entomological field.
- Aburame Shiori = Shino has never particularly close with his mother, particularly after leaving with his father and being largely apart from her from the ages of 3 to 5. Both of Shino's parents work in the academic field; his mother is a biologist.
- Ofelia = A present from his father in his second year of school, Ofelia is a Mexican redknee tarantula who began her life under observation in a lab and now resides in a terrarium in Shino's dorm.
School Related
- Haruno Sakura - Sakura is a fellow science-type major. They've seen each other in biology classes and a British Literature course, and don't have much problem making polite conversation. He's fairly interested in getting to know her (and her ability to whip out the Latin names of insects) better, and doesn't mind in the least being a person she can rant at when the other men in her life get her upset. He does mind that she thinks he's immature enough to enjoy swinging on swing sets ,and he'll see her there same time next week.
- Houzuki Suigetsu - Suigetsu is a fellow biology-type major. They don't know each other particularly well, in part because Shino isn't very drawn to people with massively different personalities.
- Hyuuga Hinata - Hinata is a fellow science-type major. They've seen each other in class, bumped into each other in the library and ultimately settled on being lab partners because they could both handle the sitting quietly together without feeling awkward game.
- Inuzuka Kiba - Kiba is a fellow science-type major. They don't know each other particularly well. But they well. Believe it. :|
- Karin - Karin is a fellow library intern. They've bumped into each other at work a few times and chatted about something on the internet. He's really not sure what to make of her, but he has seen the kind of smut she checks out from the library.
- Nara Shikamaru - Shikamaru is a fellow biology-type major. They've primarily interacted in biology classes and that sort of thing. Shino has a quiet sort of respect for Shikamaru; he knows smart when he sees it, even if it is obstructed by lackadaisical laziness at times.
- Tenten - Tenten makes tea. For this reason, as well as their strangely struck-up and easily continued conversations, Shino has a soft spot in his heart for her and is actively interested in getting to know her even better. Thus far, he has determined that he likes very much what he's seen, that she's one of the prettiest girls he's ever felt comfortable talking to, that she is a person worthy of treating with care and respect, and that he hopes to cat-sit for her in the future both because of the level of closeness it would indicate and the adorable little kitten he's already fallen in love with. He also massively appreciates the amazing text wars they've had.
- Uchiha Sasuke - Sasuke is someone Shino isn't sure how he met but by whom he is continually amused. He isn't really sure what the big deal is supposed to be, but then he doesn't always pay that much attention to the things just outside his personal bubble.
- Uzumaki Naruto - Naruto is just one of those people everyone's bumped into at some point. They have a passing knowledge of one another from the realm of scholastic martial arts. Shino is not 100% what to make of him, but is only mildly curious to find out more; boy is loud sometimes.
- Yamanaka Ino - Ino found Shino on the interwebs. He has no idea what he's done to deserve the slightest bit of her attention. Their names, however, rhyme. His active plan isn't so much to avoid her as to maintain as calm a low profile as possible because his brain explodes a little when she talks. And to call her "Ino," not "ma'am." And oh dear god she dragged him to a frat party and did horrible things to him and now he can't talk to her anymore. Except when she talks to him first.
