Tuesday afternoon on the outskirts of town

The brothers had been up early during the day and got started with CJ's car. Stripped down, all parts that could be salvaged were set aside for cleaning and a check. Everything was made ready and all they needed was for the parts Loz arranged to have shipped to show up ( Read more... )

After a morning of airing out the shop -- it had, after all, been closed up for several days -- and a brief stop at the TARDIS to visit with CJ, Geoff headed out toward the house at the edge of town. It really was a beautiful day, and he found himself whistling softly as he walked up the road.

Spotting the open shop doors, he headed straight there, figuring it to be the likeliest place to find the brothers.

Geoff stopped to lean just inside the doorway, announcing his presence with a jovial "Afternoon!"

In the middle of the shop, CJ's wrecked car sat in pieces, laid out methodically while they worked on it.

All three brothers looked up to see Geoff at the door. Nodding to him, Kadaj and Yazoo continued working, and Loz stood up to meet Geoff at the entrance to the shop. "Hey."

Grinning, Geoff returned the nods and walked toward Loz. "Hey. I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"

When he reached the man, he leaned in for a light kiss.

"Just getting things ready," Loz said. He waved to the car. "As soon as that truck gets here, we can get started."

Loz leaned back against Geoff and kissed him softly. "Ready for your first lesson?"

"I'll get us over there then let you loose on your own," Loz said in Geoff's ear. "And you are doing great so far. Now I'm just taking you where you can go up several gears and practise breaking."

Taking off across the island, Loz got them to one of the beaches and to a fairly secluded spot. It being colder weather, not many people would be out.

He got off the bike and clapped Geoff on the shoulder. "Go up four and break, turn and come back."

Taking a deep breath, Geoff nodded and went through a quick mental checklist of everything he was supposed to do. Then he accelerated, headed up the beach, and went up the gears one by one.

It was when it came time to brake that he had the trouble, lost his balance at the change and then lost control of the bike as well. It skidded on its side, dragging Geoff along under it for a ways until it lodged in the sand and stopped.

Loz saw the wobble during braking and was in motion, racing down the beach at top speed. He slid to stop right at the bike and down to one knee next to Geoff. "Hey," he said. His voice was perfectly calm when addressing Geoff and wouldn't have admitted that his heart was racing triple time. "That was pretty good."

Before he would move the bike, he needed a body check. "How are you?"

"Ow, fuck!" was Geoff's immediate reponse.

After a quick inventory, though, he added, "All in one piece, I think. My foot hurts like the devil, and I have sand in places that I really didn't want sand. But otherwise, I think the biggest problem is that I appear to be caught underneath some sort of large, loud machine."
