>:O on spammage!!!
Wow! Its been a while. I have been soooo busy!!! Fearless is going to be staring soon! I am so excited to be having a TV series!
Next fall, Rachael Leigh Cook stars as a kick-ass crime fightin' cutie with a secret weapon -- she was born without a "fear gene" -- in the new Jerry Bruckheimer thriller Fearless (coming to The WB and The New VR). Her character is a 21-year-old FBI agent, part of a "Y" Unit of twentysomething FBI brats. In one scene in the pilot she doesn't even blink as a terrorist goes all Mumbly Peg on her hand, stabbing within a hair of her digits. Along the way, she coolly dodges bullets and Kung fu's bad guys.
But is there really such a thing as a fear gene?
"God no," says Cook, who was in Toronto Sunday and yesterday as a guest of the MuchMusic Video Awards. "I mean, I'm no doctor, but no."
The wacky, ear-splitting street party that is the MMVAs has been known to wind and bewilder many a past celeb, but laid-back Cook seemed to be taking it all in stride the next morning.
"It was just so random and frenetic," she said. Cook found herself being hustled out of a limo, beseiged by fans along the red carpet and steered toward the makeshift concert stage in the CHUM/CITY parking lot. Some producer pointed out her mark, shoved a scrap of paper into her hand and said, "Here's your script."
Cook's big line: "Please welcome Disturbed."
The MMVA staff apparently ran out of wristbands, so Cook, Everwood star Gregory Smith and Danny Masterson from That '70s Show, along with movie heartthrob Shane West, were told to keep out of the various V.I.P. areas. Oops!
The night wasn't a total loss. Later they got whisked by limo to the jam-packed Revolver Films after-party.
Cook and Canadian-born Smith are old pals. The two go back eight years to Harriet The Spy. "It was good catching up on old times," she said.
The Minneapolis native has gone from being the She's All That girl to the lead in Josie And The Pussycats. Why the switch to television?
"I like TV -- I can even admit that," she says, adding that most shows she watches are better "than the movies I've been buying tickets to lately."
She even admits to bingeing on the whole reality scene and loves the home design series Trading Spaces. "That Hildy is one evil design demon," she says.
Her TV experience is pretty much limited to a guest stint on Dawson's Creek. The night before she shot those scenes, they sprang a whole new character on her. "She went from being a reasonable character to this sort of conniving, jealous witch. I felt kind of ridiculous."
Welcome to television, Rachael.
This new gig, if it goes, should keep her on sets and in and out of trailers for many 14-hour days. What if it lasts five years? "I'll be 28," she told her manager, who then explained a little thing called syndication revenue.
That put it all in perspective. Now if it lasts, "I'm going to get a boat and call it 'Fifth Season'," says Cook.
Her character may have no fear, but there are plenty of things that spook Cook. "Death -- who's not afraid of death?" she says. "And regret. And spiders."
