Can you not set the IP6_NOTWAT flag? Although that might be an OpenBSD extension, like IP6_HUMPPA and IP6_NOGNUSHIT.

I don't know, the NOTWAT flag doesn't sound compatible with the OpenBSD project's approach at all times. :)
