Suggestions for flying w/ a Coronet????

I'm stressing a little...trying to decide what to do with the Coronet. I had originally just planned to carry it on, in the box. But then someone said, "Have you checked with the airline? Would hate to see you miss your flight because it's an issue..." and then someone pointed out how heavy the box is... But I don't want to have someone drive it, ( Read more... )

We travel with ours in the box in our carryon ALL the time. Just tell them it is a costume jewlery peice and it is not an issue. TRUST me.

Do not check it.

Oh and if they ask you to put it on the a la cart thingy when you actually go to board the flight say no too - they grief us every time but the a la cart is not a whit safer than checked luggage....... if they press you ask them if they can guarantee your 10,000 peice of jewelry will be safe in a la cart and they cant and then you can just put it under the seat or in overhead. I just say no thank you when they ask : )

Yeah, I agree with Inga. We have taken them as carry-on countless times, and aside from some weird looks and questions, it has never been an issue. :) And I don't hink weight is an issue, merely that your carry-on can be stowed either under your seat, or in the over-head bins. But yeah, don't check it! And sending it with someone, while safe most of the time, doesn't ensure that it will show up! Shit happens, and cars break down.....

I always took mine packed as carry on WITHOUT the box, I just put it in a small case packed with other things so it wouldn't slide around. Honestly, if there isn't anything in the box you actually need, there's no point in bringing it. After that, it's the same as Inga. Explain that it's costume jewelry, it's expensive, and not checkable. I've never had any problems (just weird looks and the odd "Is that a crown?")and have flown with it across the border several times.

yeah, I agree. The Summits Coronets are not heavy in and of themselves. Go to Goodwill, and look for a cookie tin that the coronet will fit in. Pad it with a little foam, or just some of your clothes for the event.

I laugh at this statement "The Summits Coronets are not heavy in and of themselves." tell that to my neck after wearing it for a few hours! LOL

You shouldn't have any problem carrying it on :)
