Transcribing research interviews

Hi Everyone,

I checked the tags and poked around the site (which I've been watching for a long time), but didn't find anything on this topic, so here goes; hope it's not repetitive.

My experience hiring transcriptionists for my master's research )

research methods, ask the a_a reference desk, dissertations-and-theses, resources

In fact I'm seeing this from the other side. Those sites look like places where I could tout myself as a freelancer! Thank you, and I hope you'll get the responses that you seek.

I think the markets on those sites are pretty active, and I for one would be MUCH more comfortable hiring someone with actual research/academic experience. If you're a good typist (and can transcribe without hurting yourself), you could probably make good money doing it. When I was doing my own transcribing I had a USB foot pedal that really helped. I think it was only like $30... a worthwhile investment, for sure. Anyway, good luck and hope it works out!

I like, and used extensively for my dissertation research, Transcribblers: transcribblers(dot)com
They have undergone CITI certification for human subjects research, so are compliant with any IRB requirements.
Not a freelancer, but a lot less expensive than most professional transcription services.

(also: that was my deleted comment, first time posting the Transcribblers website it got marked as spam - sorry!)

Mediabistro (dot) com is where a lot of professionals search for jobs. They have both people looking for freelance work and people looking for long-term jobs.

Reposted in the hopes that it will not be marked as spam since you specifically asked where the pros are.

Thanks; I hadn't heard of that one. I ended up going another direction, but it's good to have an actual recommendation re: where to get a freelancer As my post probably indicated, the landscape of online freelancer sites seems to have changed a lot since I did my master's.
