i thought it was hyped for sure.. but for good reason. i really liked most of the film... it was just the last half hour. the neat little package. the scar kissing. just.. ugh. and i did not buy the romantic aspect of it at all....
Ha, yees. I don't know. I'm going through a phase of underawed by a lot of films...except Gran Torino, that was waaay above my expectations. Very clever little film.
I watched it not knowing what it was or that it was supposed to be this phenomenal flick, and I was absolutely blown away by how good it was. I thought it was fantastic.
Watching movies is all about expectations, I think, because I really can't say how I would have thought of it if I'd seen it after all the hype hype hype.
well, it's true that i did have expectations for it... but the thing is that it actually lived up to those expectations for me up until the end of the movie. i just thought the romantic arc of it was not very believable (and i hated the scar kissing.. so cheesy...), and i thought it would have been a better film if he didn't win the game. it was just too neatly wrapped up.
Is it like Crash, where it's perfectly contrived and a bit melodramatic?
What's weird is that I found Crash to be those things, yet I still thoroughly enjoyed it... it got to me and affected my emotions, DESPITE how predictable and melodramatic it was. I felt like a sucker for falling for it even though I knew what they were concocting all along, but they did it so technically well that I just couldn't fault it.
It's nothing like Crash, in that it's actually good.
I was not super happy with the ending, but I was literally in tears from the beginning to almost the very, very end, and just when I composed myself, the dance sequence somehow managed to make me cry harder than anything else, and also made up for it. Seriously.

Like I say, yeah it's all cool but it didn't blow me out of the water, yet for some, it appears to have.

A little too sentimental and corney for moi but the dance during the credits made up for it.
