Poor Sam - finally finds a truly geek-worthy mission and fire-wielding robots cheat her out of it! I do hope they get to go back and find a way to deactivate the maintenance system...
I'd assumed that it was sheer bad luck that the Stargate compartment came up so quickly on the maintenance rounds. Since the SGC now knows where the monitors are for watching the maintenance 'bots, I assumed they'd be back after the cleaning and Sam and the others would get to poke around to their hearts' content.
Once Daniel's done some translating, they ought to be able to return the maintenance settings to one that doesn't require total removal of all living things each time the rooms are cleaned. Actually, I think the maintenance system is sophistocated enough that it would have automatically switched to a lower cleansing level upon detecting the presence of living things in the compartment, but SG-1 didn't know that, and who's to day that what wouldn't hurt the builders would also be safe for humans?
The notion of the "nothing but down" microgravity gate destination is an old bunny that never got to the top of my heap. When I signed up for a letter, I intended to find a descriptive N-word and build around it, but the bunny started nibbling my ankles and insisted that it could be a suitable vehicle for an adventure that featured the talents of the whole team. I'd've liked to join Carter and Daniel in exploring the technology and culture of a race that doesn't share something as basic as our concept of "up" and "down", but I just didn't have time.

Thank you, again.
