Only problem I had: many schools consider extension cords a fire hazard and don't allow them (rather, their local fire marshall considers them a fire hazard). This is coming from a former RA (I've now graduated!).
Also, don't come to college with the expectation that your roommate will be your best friend. You guys may not even end up being friendly--you just have to cooperate with one another to live in a room for a set amount of time. A lot of times requests for room changes won't be granted right off the start if you and your roommate get off to a bad start. On the other hand, if you do get along with your roommate, make sure to still explore other friendships--don't get too attached to your roommate, because you never know if they might change once they've gone through rush, etc.
Agreed. At first, my roommates and I were friends, but as the year went on we realized how different we are and were so grateful to go out separate ways at the end of the year.
I've never really heard good things about Greek life. However, due to the comments I've received on this entry, I'm thinking of creating another entry which would present a more balanced overview.
I hope that what I've written hasn't discouraged or upset you. If Greek life is something you're interested in, I would definitely suggest rushing.
Your list was okay, but what you said about the Greek system was majorly false! I used to feel the same way, until I actually rushed. I am a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and I can tell you from experience it is not like the things you see in countless movies or television shows. There shouldn't be hazing, if there is report it to your school or national office! Drinking is going to be done by everyone, Greek or not. Know your own standards and limitations. There are several upsides to the Greek community; responsibility, philanthropy, a good reference on applications, friends, connections, etc. The Greek system is like any other club or organization; you have to find out about it for yourself and make you own decisions about it. Just because you've heard bad things does not mean it's totally evil.
Thanks for your comment. I realize that my presentation of Greek life is negative, and I'm looking to perhaps create a page which gives a more balanced overview of sororities and fraternities.
That would be really awesome, actually. I don't think I'll manage to have anything up until around Thanksgiving, but when I do have something, I would love to include whatever you've written!
My older sister had a hell of a time during university when she was leaving, to say the least it was pure chaos so it was awesome of you to post this to help the unmotivated like myself.

And I think your advice about roommates is spot on.
