For any normal person, walking out of their home and finding themselves walking into an unfamiliar alley way instead of a familiar neighborhood would likely be a little surprising. Possibly even more than a little. Being spirited away from home to god only knew where, signs of destruction all around, would be enough to make anyone feel a little antsy. And even for Anathema, who'd practically been raised to take even the strangest things as they come without batting an eyelash, was a little startled at the sudden change.

But all of that meant surprisingly little to Anathema in the face of one very important fact: where ever she was right now, she had no book of prophecies. She also had no Newton, but then the man knew how to take care of himself, if he was here at all. No, the book was what was important right now, because if it had come with her to this city (and there was no reason it shouldn't have; she'd been holding it just before she arrived, so it had to be here, hadn't it?), and if someone else had picked it up and realized what exactly it was that they had....

But she couldn't find it. She'd tried to ask the locals and gotten nothing, searched the entire alley she had found herself in that morning. Anathema was still blinking back tears when she finally gave up and headed for the closest gate out of the district.

Witches didn't pout. But if they did, Anathema was doing a wonderful impression of what it may look like.
