SGA 5x7 (Whispers) thoughts (spoilers)

OK, really not a fan of the horror episodes. My imagination just doesn't need that kind of fodder for 4 AM freak-outs.

But there were some condolences for having to spend a third of the episode hiding behind my hands. That team rocked. Yes, it was basically a repeat of the episode when Team Sheppard found one of Michael's labs. And yes, having an all-female team seems a little contrived. And yes, they were all some shade of beautiful because we live in that kind of culture and SGA hasn't seen fit to buck that particular bit of sexism. And yes, the idea that Sheppard wouldn't know about who is on what team is completely ridiculous, though it did lead to him getting a lovely talking-to by Teldy. Still. The team rocked.

Honestly, I'm surprised that the writers managed to write that team so well. They really did sound like a group of women who spend a lot of time together. They sounded like a team. Actually, what I think showed their chemistry the best was non-verbal. It was towards the end, when Porter balked at going further into the catacombs and the group split up, when Dusty looked at Porter with an expression that said "Could you two be more obvious?" and Porter shot back with her own look of "Oh, shut up." That was a great little moment, and well-acted. Also? Dusty absolutely rocked. She was such a perfect kind of stereotyped grunt ("bad guys need killing"), but also perfectly competent and just a bit of a smart-ass, what with the gum-chewing and comic book reading and yelling at Carson when he was being stupid.

It was also nice to see Nicole de Boer again (I haven't seen her since she was Ezri Dax on the final season of DS9), and her line about "exploring strange new worlds" was an unexpected joy. Though, honestly, does Carson have to flirt with every woman he shares a console with? Not that Porter didn't return it, but he did start it, with what amounts to a really bad pick-up line. And are the PTB trying to apologise for killing him in S3? I mean, I like the character and absolutely no disrespect or anything of the sort to Paul McGillon, but it's just really weird how they keep trotting him out, kind of randomly. Maybe Dusty should go talk to them.
