Catching up on lost time (Library - open for all)

Jan 15, 2006 21:01

Tucked comfortly away in a private corner of the library, Adrian looked at his reading list, the stack of books, and wondered if he'd be able to catch up properly. Thank Merlin he hadn't been gone for longer than he had. He still had a semester to catch up with the others so he'd be ready for his last year, and the final N.E.W.T.'s ( Read more... )

Niki arrived back at Hogwarts via floo network having been unable to return on the Express with everyone else. Her father's injuries from 'an incident at work' had needed attention regularly and her mother had had to keep working. He refused to stay in the hospital, preferring to be at home and Niki, for the first time ever, wasn't particularly worried about returning to school ( ... )

After Jon left, Adrian turned back to his books with a sigh. It had been nice, oddly enough, to simply talk for a bit. Even with the Gryffindor. Then again, Jon had always been a nice enough bloke.

Leaning back in his chair again, he turned his head to look out of the large window. A shape flying by had him blink. Blonde streaking hair... he knew that posture! Niki. He'd wondered where she was at, and there she was. Right under his nose.

Adrian rose and moved over to the window to be able to look out properly. He looked after the disappearing shape with a small smile. It was time to call it a day here in the library.

Quickly he replaced the books, gathered his notes and made his way to the dungeons. Down there he dressed in a warm robe, scarf and leather flying gloves. He only made one stop on his way outside, and that was to retrieve the Firebolt.

Once outside, he mounted the broom and kicked off, going high speed in the direction he'd seen Niki go in last. Towards the Lake.

High enough to stay out of the reaches of the giant squid should it be looking to 'play', Niki blew away some of the dark shadows that had been gathering and breathed deeply. The crisp cold air filled her lungs as she flew faster and faster around the edge of the lake, lifting and diving over small rocky outcrops that jutted into the lake's depths. At least this reminded her of one of the reasons she used to always look forward to returning. And then she remembered why she hadn't this time. She looked down again, the small smile that had managed to make it to her face, if not her eyes, fading. She saw the clearing where last time...

She pushed the thought from her mind, and circled down to it, slowing and stepping from her broom as soon as it came to a hover. Not even sure why she'd stopped here she walked over to a spill of rocks and sat down, arms tightly wrapped around her middle, eyes staring at the ground as images and memories started tumbling through her mind.

Adrian reached the Lake quickly, scanning the large plane of water for both signs of tentacles, and for a lone broom rider. He couldn't see anybody though and frowned, slowing down a bit.

Where could she be? The area was rocky and there were a lot of trees and bushes and nooks and cranny's where somebody could hide. But why would she hide?

Adrian looked up at the sky, squinting slightly against the sun. He couldn't see her higher up, so either she'd landed or he'd simply ... imagined it all.

He decided to fly a slow round along the edge of the Lake, before going in. He might as well enjoy the sun and the fresh crisp air while he had the time.

Adrian flew at a leisurely pace, not in any particular hurry to get anywhere, while he was scanning the ground and the surroundings for signs of Niki.

Suddenly a flash of blond hair caught by the wind, had him halt and he dived down towards it. Yes, it was Niki. He hadn't been wrong. But as he came closer, he saw her posture and frowned slightly again. She looked so ... dejected. Hadn't ( ... )

Jon's bored of spending time in the library trying to figure out Arithmancy. As much as he likes Hades, this is still his hardest subject, and after three hours, he just can't concentrate anymore.

He spots Adrian on the other table and makes his way over to him.

"Hey." He peeks at the title of the book. "My condolences."

Adrian looks up from the book at the Gryffindor with an arched eyebrow. He still remembers the 'Bubble' incident quite clearly.

"Hi. Thanks. It's all right though, just working to catch up." He likes Arithmancy and hasn't regretted choosing it for his N.E.W.T.'s.

"Two months worth of catching up," he continues and puts the book down.

Jon laughs a little. "I have, like, two years worth of catching up. I'm trying hard to make it, though. How've you been lately, Adrian? It's good to see you back, you know?"

Adrian is a little surprised by Jon's interest, but what the heck.

"I've been okay. It's good to be back here. What about you? Other than slaving over Arithmancy, of course."
