“Hurry up, Lea!” Dianna yelled out, Lea squabbling to get to Dianna. It was an unusually hot day in San Francisco for early May. Lea was panting, completely parched. Dianna gave her a look and Lea pouted. With that, Dianna looked down inside her purse smiling and shaking her head. Finally, she had found what she was looking for. Damn purse is like a Mary Poppins bag! Dianna thought, taking out the cold water bottle and placing it politely in Lea’s desperate hands. It seemed as though Lea hadn’t had anything to drink in ages because she chugged the water bottle whole. Dianna’s mouth hung in shock.
“Thanks!!” Lea let out a deep breath and shrugged, flashing her fabulous teeth at Dianna, who couldn’t resist imitating the gesture.
They walked around the store checking out clothes. Dianna just wanted to find something comfortable to last her three more days until they were in Sacramento for their next tour stop. That’s when the management team had told her that her stuff would be arriving. She really hoped that they were being truthful about that. She felt even more homesick without any of her personal belongings.
Lea saw a cute bathing suit and called Dianna over. She added it to her pile of clothes and then decided it was about time she headed to a dressing room. Lea agreed. Once Dianna was gone, Lea gulped loudly and thought of what she was getting into. She was putting up a fight with these feelings. It was as if she wanted to know what would happen; as if she was running some type of experiment and her sexuality was the variable while Dianna was her constant. It thrilled her and at the same time scared her. She was shy and reserved in contrast to the out-there personality she showed on the outside, but even this was a little more extreme than she ever thought she’d contemplate to do. This was another person she was toying with. Although, it was rather obvious that Dianna wasn’t doing much to stop Lea. Maybe Dianna was thinking the same thing?
Dianna could see Lea in deep thought from the crack between the fitting room door and the frame. Lea had been acting very strange lately, but all Dianna thought to do was dismiss it. She had a soft spot for the tiny brunette. Sometimes, Dianna thought she’d do anything for her. A warm tingly feeling ran through Dianna’s body as she met her reflection in the mirror on the back wall. She was wearing a tiny bikini and Dianna had never showed this much skin to anyone that wasn’t in a relationship with her before. Especially, not the girl waiting for her right outside, the one who might be causing odd feelings of attraction to rise in Dianna without her consent. Dianna took a deep breath and turned to unlock the door.
Lea’s eyes bee-lined to the dressing rooms as she heard a door unlock. She braced herself, but only to hear Dianna call Lea over. Trying hard to thinking of what Dianna could possibly want Lea want to do, she finally got to Dianna’s stall. Lea gulped again.
“Do you mind-” Dianna’s back was toward Lea. Dianna’s arm was bent across her back holding the two bottom strings that were supposed to be securely wrapped and tied around Dianna’s back in order for Lea’s heart not to come out of her mouth. Lea just stared at the strings as if not comprehending what she was being asked to do. Dianna moved her wrist making the strings swing from side to side, her eyes fixed on Lea’s face in the mirror in front of them. Dianna felt a strange rush as she gave her mind permission to think that maybe Lea was interested in what she saw in front of her.
“Lea,” Dianna began.
At the sound of Dianna’s voice, Lea snapped back to reality; if it really is reality, Lea thought. The moment seemed to go in slow motion, like the scene in the film Carrie when she was about to get the pig blood dumped on her. Lea reached for the strings, purposely letting her index fingers do what they do best; caress. Dianna couldn’t help but close her eyes and breathe in deep, even though Lea had a clear view of Dianna in the mirror ahead. Already having a hard time tying the damn strings, it didn’t help that Dianna’s breathing was irregular.
“I can’t do this if you keep breathing like that.” Lea peeked through her bangs as it was Dianna’s turn to blush furiously.
“Well, then, if you were to tie them a bit faster, I wouldn’t be so frustrated.”
Lea and Dianna knew that frustrated wasn’t really the word Dianna meant to say, but alas, it was the word used and the tension in the small stall was spilling over. Lea finally tied the strings and let her hands run down Dianna’s back. She leaned her chin on Dianna’s shoulder casually.
“You look beautiful.”
Before Dianna could say anything, Lea had disappeared from the room. She wondered what she had done wrong. Her eyes closed and she felt goosebumps form where Lea’s hands had just been. Her touch, though nothing special, lingered on her skin. She tried not to imagine things, weird things. What are you even thinking about? Dianna asked herself. She shook her head harshly. Uncomfortable in the bathing suit now more than ever, Dianna changed into another outfit. It was a dress which ran down to just above the knees. The pattern was light yellow flowers on white, heart-shape front, and spaghetti straps. Feeling a little more confident now, she stepped out side of her stall and headed to Lea. Again, Lea was engulfed in deep thought. Dianna stood with her back against the frame of the door and smiled at Lea.
“You okay?” Dianna asked softly. Lea’s eyes unintentionally traveled from Dianna’s feet until she met her eyes. A warm smile rose on Lea’s earlier stern face.
“Wow, you look wonderful,” said Lea, “like a ray of sunshine.”
“So, I should get it?”
“Definitely!”
Dianna’s nose scrunched up and she smiled wide. She turned around and went back to the dressing room. Lea kept that warm smile on her face.
