Snowflake Challenge - Day 4

Jan 04, 2014 12:47

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.

Done! No idea why this felt so much more intimidating to me than other challenges, but it did.

I know! I found it pretty nerve-wracking too. But it's a good kick up the arse for me. I'm so bad at interacting with anyone new, l can spend ages trying to work myself up to it.

I don't think of myself as shy, but sometimes I just can't quite figure out a good way to initiate a conversation. And then I obsess over it to a ridiculous degree.

Yeah, that was a bit scary. But I'm all for poking at new people, because I've made some of my best friends that way.

I try to remind myself that when I *don't* ask, the answer is always 'no', so the risk seems more manageable. But then I start over-thinking and can work myself into quite a state.

It's scarier to me to ask if people chat on IM XD Like friending people is scary but I can do it rather quickly, but asking someone if they'd actually like to have a conversation is even worse.

*mutter* THAT l just can't seem to make myself do - asking a specific person to chat is completely beyond my social powers, apparently. l just sit in my corner and wonder why l only ever chat with one or two people. l only ever chat with one or two people because l don't take the initiative, of course. That does tend to be how it works, one has heard...

I felt like I was being all ~dramatic, so was relieved to see others who have been around the block a few times having similar difficulties.
