AGH I'm going to kill my landlord from this summer. I got a check for my security deposit...but not for the entire thing, DESPITE the fact that he told me I was getting the whole thing back because I had nothing to do with any painting/damage in the building. Also, the guy who wrote the check had a heart attack, so I feel like I may never see the

i don't know what the differences are in illinois...but i do know this wouldn't fly here. did he provide you with receipts etc?

My landlord called me back like 30 seconds after I posted, he is actually a really good guy and I think is going tomake sure I get the last $50 of my deposit. The situation is just like, complicated because the guy who wrote the check (building OWNER, diff from my landlord) just had a heart attack and is in the hospotal.
He didn't give me any receipts, and therefore by law he is required to give me the entire thing back. But he's nice and it's $50, and I may need to use him as a reference when I'm looking for a new lease, so if it came down to it, I wouldn't make a point of the lack of receipt in order to get my money.
