Another question for the computer-savvy

Since I'm probably going to need to replace my monitor, as it's something like 5+ years old and doesn't seem likely that it'll play nice with the new computer (not to mention being on the small side), any suggestions as to what I should be looking for in a new one? Well... I guess size and price is what you have to consider. I was going to get a 22" Acer monitor, and it's about the same price as an HP 19" and had good reviews. This was more than a year ago, however, so the price might be better now. I have... no idea if you [or anyone B|] needs a monitor that big, but the price was good...

HP has good quality stuff, but it's expensive. Acer is cheaper, and not as cool looking, but if it lasts for 5 years, even 3, I'd say it paid for itself. [Nevermind the lifespan of a monitor is supposed to be 10 years]

Well, technically, my monitor works just fine, it's just kind of on the small side in resolution, and doesn't seem to cooperate with the new computer well, since it's old enough to need an adapter to plug into it.
