One thing that kinda gets to me, is just how big a deal is made about new words being added to some dictionary or another. Or the question of whether or not a word is in a dictionary, and so on.

It's great to start with, though, especially when *learning* a language (as slang can quickly date you at best and be offensive at worst). Or to check correct spellings, as you've said (and sometimes there are multiple spellings; I haven't checked recently but I know that theatre has become more of an accepted spelling co-equal with theater, lately)

Right, it's an excellent resource and reference, it just doesn't define what a language is and isn't.
