This sounds like the same kind of nonsense Governor Granholm and her union buddies manage to foist on the daycare and home health providers of Michigan. Hopefully the Minnesota providers can nip this in the bud.
It probably is the same thing, I've heard that there's been several states so far where something like this was pushed through. So far, though, Minnesotans are proving stubborn enough to put the brakes on the matter.
There is NEVER a legitimate case for "fair share" dues. It is neither taxation (as revenue does not fund government) nor a contract willingly entered into. That leaves only theft.
Well, I know that in some places where all or almost all positions are "union represented", that information is disclosed in the job posting, so whether or not someone hired to the position plans to fully join the union it's still clear up front that the "fair share" is part of it. Though I'd imagine that's quite a bit different than, you know, only letting about a third of the people affected vote to begin with and then charge the rest.
