Congratulations on the son! :) I think you should go for it! Even if your son eventually doesn't want anything to do with music, in the meantime it'll give you something memorable to do with him - I figure if you start now you'll be able to play quite a few songs by the time he can sing along :) Some of my best early memories are of my dad singing to me... And he'll probably be more likely to be interested in learning music if you're playing around him. Granted it's got a steeper "starting curve" than, say, piano. It takes some time to build up the calluses and finger strength to where you can physically play for awhile without discomfort (the former took me around 3 weeks daily playing, the latter I've probably got a ways to go). So it may not be for everyone. But I'm sure enjoying the bleedin' heck out of it and I hope you get a chance to have the same sort of fun. Here are some websites I've found that have really helped me out - my big 5:

I'm glad you're doing so well. Nice to hear happiness coming out of a post from you. We haven't chatted in forever, maybe that'll change soon? Smiles :)
Hey I can relate to you alot I have self-hating defeatist crap all the time too. I'm actually taking lexapro. It helps. That's so awesome that you love playing the guitar! I'm so proud of you! I love the guitar too, I can read music, but the strings on the guitar are a little too hard on my fingers. Hey can we be friends? You seem nice. Hope you're doing well! =)

I got a guitar just before my son was born (March) but haven't really started on it yet... maybe I'll get inspired now!
Keep going and looking forward to hearing an mp3 creation by your good self!
